BREAKING: Quinton Coples Out Indefinitely With an Ankle Injury

Now, this is not good news coming out of the New York Jets media department.

Around 20 minutes ago, the team announced that DE/LB Quinton Coples, injured during last night’s game against the Jaguars, is out indefinitely. He will miss the remainder of the preseason, with a procedure scheduled for Tuesday. There is no timetable for his return at the time of this post.

A tough break for a Jets’ young player that was looking to take a major step forward, and for a Jets’ front seven that is young and about as dynamic as they have had in quite some time.

The team will be in “next man up” mode, with guys like Antwan Barnes, Antonio Garay, and Ricky Sapp needing to step things up and get to the quarterback in Coples’ absence. You know who this could be a huge change for? Calvin Pace. He has been on the back of the roster after getting released, and one guy going down may save Pace his roster spot.

We will see how this group begins to adapt as the week moves along until the Giants’ game on Saturday night.

Not good news for a defense that struggled against the Jags, Coples was being depended on to be a key component on this defense. Sapp looked good playing with the 2′s Saturday night, he did apply some pressure. If they use Calvin pace, In his place, it’ll look much like last year’s defense, his coverage skills are poor, he’s older and slower, he belonged on the back side of the roster.

agreed paul….it looks like the intention is Garrett McIntyre in his place, at least for now.

I just read a piece that Rex is going to use McIntyre. He struggled last year, if that’s true I hope he’s stepped up his game!

      I hope so too sir.
