Mark Sanchez on the Improvement on Stephen Hill

When talking about the Jets 2013 training camp, the first thing everyone talks about is the QB competition, understandably so. But, one of the biggest topics to come up after the QB discussion is over, is about the WR’s. Who is going to step up, especially now, since Santonio Holmes will be out for a long time?

The answer might just be Stephen Hill. To date in training camp, his play has been significantly better. His hands are improving every day, as well as every element of his game. Mark Sanchez has noticed, here is what he had to say about him:

He looks just a little more grown up. A little thicker, a little bigger, and he’s going after the ball. He’s just getting more and more confidence, and that comes with time, that comes with experience, (and) that comes with being 100 percent healthy. You know he’s coming off that injury in OTA’s, and people were starting to worry, is he going to be ok, is he going to come back. He’s going to be fine. You know he’s a big strong kid, and as soon as he realizes it, you know the sky is the limit for that guy. He’s going to be a real good player for us.

We can only hope that Mark is right about Stephen Hill. He can be an intense threat down the field, to extend things and open up lanes for the running game and the underneath passing game. If he “gets it”, Mark is right, Stephen has the potential to be quite special.

We will begin to find out on Friday night.

While everybody was drooling over Hayden smith’s performance in otas, it’s been all quiet on the Hayden front in camp while it’s been just the opposite with hill. Nearly every football story since the draft asked what would we do about the receiver situation. If what we’re reading about hill during camp is any indication, coupled with the positive reposts on spadola, gates and hazelton, the receiver situation may be one of our strengths rather than the perceived weakness it was reported to be. Now about that reported strength, the running backs…

totally agree on that with the receivers….RB’s are worriesome

You are not forgetting RG are you? Man this was an embarrassment!

  • Paul Newbold

WR is a question mark. Good reports on Hill’s progress, Gates coming around. Rookies might make a showing. RB has become a concern. CB play has reportedly been good, but who starts? Safety is another “open competition”, so what will the face of our secondary be? Still lots of questions on this team. Hopefully, Friday we’ll get a better idea of what they’ll look like! let’s play football!
