It seems more and more like the version of Santonio Holmes to the right, in street clothes, is the one we are going to see now and for the near future.
According to Brian Costello of the Post, Santonio now expects to not be ready come week one of the regular season. In fact, he is telling friends that he will miss at least the first four games of the regular season.
If the Jets remove him from the PUP list, he can come back after four games. If not, he will be required by rule to miss 6 games.
Despite Holmes’ woes, the wide receivers have been better than expected thus far in training camp. Stephen Hill is curing his problems with dropping passes. Clyde Gates has been an unexpected star. Jeremy Kerley is continuing his upward movement as a player. UDFA Ryan Spadola is turning heads in camp, looking to earn a roster spot as well. Vidal Hazelton is another receiver that has looked good.
This group could be OK. Even if Holmes is not ready to go, which he might not be for a while, the group is beginning to appear competent.
Hey, it’s a start.
