BREAKING: Braylon Edwards Set to Return to the Jets, Pending Physical

It’s like that on again, off again relationship that never ends. You break up, and then you see each other so much you end up back together again. And again. And again.

Well, there is a looming party at the headquarters of “uSTADIUM” led by Nick Spano. Why? Because it looks like Braylon Edwards is set to finally make his return to the Jets. According to Manish Mehta of the Daily News, he is set to sign with the team, all that was left is that he has to pass his physical.

This will mark Edwards’ third stint with the team as we know. He finished off the season with 3 games in Green and White last season, after playing here 2009-2010 as part of the Flight Boys. Does Braylon Edwards have much left? That still remains to be seen. But we do know that he will be a boost to a WR crew that is hurting, more after the setting of Santonio Holmes on the PUP list.

UPDATE 10 PM

It looks like the reunion is complete. Per Adam Schefter, Braylon Edwards will be travelling with the team tomorrow to Cortland for training camp. He is set to sign a one year deal.

The moment we’ve been waiting for! I know he is not the savior to our season, but I’m excited to have Braylon back in green & white where he can be a threat this season and hopefully help mentor Hill.

I like that we actually have some insurance for Holmes also.. something we clearly did not have last year.

    • Paul Newbold

If Braylon makes the 53 man roster it’ll be a sad day in Jet history…he’s toast!

      • Korwil

I would definitely prefer Braylon over trying to rely on several inexperienced young guys, especially with Holmes hurt. Plus he came in 15 pounds lighter so he can definitely be fast n physical enough to get open at 215. Is he the same player as ’09/’10? No but hes hungry to play for us just read his tweets!

    • TheJetPress

I’m with Korwil…I don’t see a real downside, he’s better than what we have that is healthy.

  • Paul Newbold

Good grief! I thought Idjik was smarter then this!! Terrible, Terrible move!! The guy is as fast as a snail, his routes are a joke! The tank was empty two years ago! Terrible Terrible move!! Now tell me they cut a young WR to find room for him! This is a typical “Jet Folly” signing!! Just a note, but the only legitimate argument for this signing is his “chemistry” with Sanchez, which shouldn’t set well with the Geno fans! Ughhh utterly disgusted!

    • TheJetPress

I agree he doesn’t have much left, but the move is OK, can’t hurt.

      • Paul Newbold

It can hurt, if they release a young talent to keep him on the roster it hurts the Jet’s future. Danny Woodhead comes to mind most recently, but the Jets have more then their share of these follies in their history!

        • TheJetPress

That’s true…there is that risk there. If you remember, I actually wrote that they don’t need him, because he has a limited amount left. But, he wants to be here, and I think that counts for something.
It’s OK we can agree to disagree on this one.

3 games last year 10 catches 125 yeards, yea hes still better then clyde gates. I really don’t know whats terrible about this, hes one of the only active wrs on the roster that will actually contribute this season. What you thin the UDFA that every team in league has passed up on is the answer and even if it is, you still need a veteran reciever to guide them. The legitimate arguement for this signing is that hes better then the rest of our reciveing core, who by the way Rex even called out for all thier drops.(and you know Rex never talks bad about his players he talks them up not down, thats a bad sign) and your advice is just go with the guys that can’t catch because thier youger LOL. My god man think then type, it really works.

      • Paul Newbold

If Edwards is better than the rest of this group, as you stated, the Jets will need to play Pop Warner football to win a game! Edwards is done, toast! There is a reason every team in the league passed him up, good reasons he’s a Free agent in JULY!! I’d rather gamble on youth then sign injury pronged, over the hill, veterans!! Could he be a mentor to younger talent? Sure he can, but to put him on the 53 man roster to be a cheerleader is ludicrous! I stand by my statements. the Edwards signing is more Jet Folly!

        • Dustin Schrank

well if you remember Edwards said he wanted to retire a Jet he didn’t even consider another team and he said he was expecting this a week from now, obviously there were talks behind closed doors thats why he wasn’t signed by any other team, but what about your UDFAs evey team in league passed up on? did they have negotiations going on in the back ground with the Jets LOL….no they didn’t , its just NO ONE WANTED THEM. Edwards came in last year didn’t even know the playbook and he out played our other recievers (minus kerley) for the limited amount of time he was on the roster. Your “gamble” on youth is not a gamble its a 100% for sure a losing ticket. how old was Jerry Rice when he retired? the guy just turned 30 you act like hes 43 and trying to play the position. There no substitute for experience.

          • Paul Newbold

He’s 30 with a bum knee. You are obviously sold on Edwards, and that’s fine. I believe the signing to be a poor one, and that’s fine too. We can agree to disagree. The need to tell me to “think before you type”, was rather rude though. Because my opinion differs from yours is not an excuse to make it personal. Our opinions differ is all.

          • Dustin Schrank

your right I shouldn’t have made it personal my apologies.

  • TheJetPress

@dustinschrank:disqus I have to agree with @paulnewbold:disqus about the exchange you guys had. I want everyone to feel that they can have their own opinions on here. Please don’t make it personal, keep the discussion football, and football only….thanks!
