Let’s watch a little game tape to end off our weekend.

We talked earlier this week about the running back competition. It seems that we all agree that there is a good chance that Joe McKnight finds himself on the outside looking in. Despite his versatility, Joe has never gotten the chance that a lot of us feel that he should. Well, while he is still on the team, let’s take look at some film.

First, Joe takes it back 107 yards on a kickoff against the Baltimore Ravens:

Here is a compilation of McKnight highlights, both from his days at USC and his time so far with the New York Jets:

He really is an exciting player to watch. As Jets fans, we can only hope that Marty tried to get him involved in the West Coast offense, to see if he would be a fit within the new concept. He certainly can make things happen in open space, which is a trait that not too many players have along our “high powered” offense.

Enjoy the videos.

holy crap! he ran that touchdown like the other team gave him a head start. he went 105 yards before anyone touched him! it’s no secret i love rex, but i don’t understand why they want this guy running between the tackles. he runs like he don’t even want help from his blockers, he’s like ‘no, it’s ok, i got it’. given that he’s even got a fumble on his highlight tape, i don’t think we have too much to debate regarding why he isn’t used more. that said, if coughlin could cure that dope tiki of his fumblitis, someone should be able to do something with this guy. we can only hope. maybe subject him to the sanchez drill. they are both usc boys.

Oh I agree…being able to protect the football would keep him on the bench, but you are right, it should be fixable.

McKnight is a product of the Jets inability to gameplay to a players strength. He is explosive and we want this kid running through the tackles. If we have been using this kid with screens, quick slants out of the backfield and reverses he would be dangerous every game. Perfect example of no one on the organization on knowing how to coach a player up. Next year we won’t resign him and he’ll go to some other other team and be a weapon.

    • TheJetPress

You are right Benny. Far from the first time we have seen a player handled like this.

  • Paul Newbold

Like I’ve already stated ” I like Joe’s abilities”. I’d love to him used more out of the backfield, his speed will be valuable in west coast screens or slants. As the tape shows he does well in open space, making people miss and he seems to always have good field vision, The numbers game is against him, personally I’d rather cut Goodson (gambling on Goodson being cleared doesn’t make sense to me). Other wise I see Mcknight getting cut, much the same way Danny Woodhead did.

    • TheJetPress

It’s unfortunate Paul, but that is exactly how I see it as well. I would love to let Goodson go, so we could be rid of his problems and issues. Won’t happen, so we can likely say goodbye to Joe soon.
