Kellen Winslow Jr. Signs One Year Deal with the New York Jets

Well here is the veteran offensive player that we have been waiting for.

This was expected, as he played well right off the bus in his first practice with the team, but they made it official today. The Jets announced the signing of TE Kellen Winslow Jr to a one year contract. Terms and conditions were not disclosed.

Winslow has had trouble with injuries to his knees, so it will remain to be seen if he can remain healthy as they move into pads. But the Jets were impressed enough by his ability to catch the ball to give Kellen a chance.

It’s a good move by the team with low risk, and high reward. We have talked about it many times before, why Winslow would be a good fit. He has had several productive years under his belt, and isn’t even thirty years old. His recent history nearly ran him out of the league, but instead, it blew him to Florham Park, and this opportunity.

In the worst case scenario, he will be released prior to the season. At it’s best, they have signed a veteran tight end that will make everyone forget Dustin Keller and quickly.

Its a signing, an upgrade at the position for sure. If he’s healthy and screws his head on right, we should be good. If he can’t, I surely hope the Jets have a back up plan! Jets need somebody to step up at TE, Marty’s version of the west coast demands a good hands TE, and as we all know after last season our TE needs to be able to block in pass protection!

He needs to be able to do it all. If Winslow is healthy, he becomes the steal of the free agent market in my opinion.
