This afternoon, we are going to take a look at another of the newest New York Jets. This guy is in his second year in the league, bouncing around some practice squads before landing in New York. He is a linebacker from Idaho. The spotlight, is on LB JoJo Dickson.
JoJo Dickson stands at 6’1″, and weights 245 pounds. At his pro day, prior to the 2011 NFL draft, he ran the 40 yard dash in 4.75 seconds. Take a look at his stats from his time as a member of the Idaho Vandals:
Here is some video on JoJo so you can familiarize yourself with him:
PROS: This man, ladies and gentlemen, is a tackler. Look at how he operates on that tape. He tackles through his man, as opposed to the ever-popular “Matador” technique of waiving at ball carriers. JoJo tackles hard, he tackles cleanly, and he doesn’t miss. He also has an excellent nose for the football. He is always around it, and can seemingly always find it. These are football techniques that cannot be taught, you either have them or you don’t. JoJo Dickson has them.
CONS: At 245 pounds, he could use a bit more bulk to handle the blockers of the NFL. Another approximately 25 pounds of muscle would do him well. You always have the concern as well, with a guy that went to a smaller school, is the quality of the competition. Is JoJo Dickson ready to make an impact at this level? Finally, he doesn’t seem to make much of an impact in the pass rush. Is there a niche for Dickson on the Jets?
JoJo Dickson obviously has football ability. That is as clear as day when you watch this tape. The question for me is whether his skill set will fit in with the New York Jets. He will certainly have his chance, and we wish him the best of luck moving forward.
