Your newest Jet, QB Geno Sith

The New York Jets Select With the 39th Pick in the 2013 NFL Draft

Well, the end of the Mark Sanchez era is apparently going to come sooner than we thought.

Well, here we go Jets fans.

The pick is in, and here we go. The Jets decided to take a quarterback after all, taking Geno Smith with their pick in the second round, the 39th pick overall. It’s ironic, how Geno Smith was going to leave NY and go home last night, and now he doesn’t have to leave for quite a while. Smith enters a team with a depth chart of Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, David Garrard, and Greg McElroy. Will a move be made to lessen this depth chart soon? We will find out.

Here are his college stats:

YEAR TEAM CMP ATT PCT YDS AVG TD LNG INT RAT
2012 369 518 71.2 4205 8.1 42 87 6 163.9
2011 346 526 65.8 4385 8.3 31 84 7 152.6
2010 241 372 64.8 2763 7.4 24 71 7 144.7
2009 32 49 65.3 309 6.3 1 33 1 120.9

I don’t love the choice, although most of you will.  It is not because of Mark, I just don’t believe this guy is a good enough quarterback to take over this team.  He is too inconsistent for me.  His mechanics and footwork are not consistent enough in my opinion.

It is definitely going to be an interesting off-season, that’s for sure.  Hopefully, Geno is ready for it.
