Could running back help be on the way? Maybe.

Chris Ivory signed his RFA tender today with the New Orleans Saints, which could pave the way for a trade to New York. Ivory visited the Jets last week, and the Jets are quite interested, but not in making a move for a second round pick. Ivory was given a second round tender, so if he hadn’t signed, the Saints would be owed a second round pick.

Now that the tender has been signed, the Jets and Saints can work out a trade for a more reasonable value.

We have talked about Ivory many times before, most recently about whether or not the Jets should make a run at him.   Ivory would be a perfect fit for the West Coast offense.

When he has gotten the chance to play, he is as explosive a back the Jets will have had in here in a long time.

If they can bring him in for a fifth or a fourth rounder, that would be ideal, and improve the Jets offense by leaps and bounds.

Ivory is indeed a vicious runner that can be quite effective in that role. But his shortcomings as a receiver and blocker in the backfield diminish his value.
