The New York Jets Re-Sign LB Calvin Pace

Ummm…..are we supposed to say welcome home now?

It was reported by our buddy Jake Steinberg a few days ago that it was imminent, but this morning, Adam Schefter has reported that it is a done deal. The Jets have brought back outside linebacker Calvin Pace on a one year contract. No financials on the deal were available at timing of this post.

This is a guy that everyone was thrilled to see released, and I don’t think many will be happy to see him return. He showed his age with flying colors last season, with only 3 sacks and 55 tackles, despite the fact that Calvin started all 16 regular season games.

However, at a minimum salary, he could at the very least, be a serviceable mentor for whomever wins the job at OLB. Also, when you look at guys like Mingo, you see a guy that may not be ready to play all 3 downs. Dion Jordan seems to be ready to play every down, but the other candidates might not be.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a veteran of the defense around to show the ropes to the new guys?

Just a thought.

“Nice not thrilling but nice” If Pace plays part time and his role is to mentor then I’m
ok with it because you know Rex is going to push hard for Mingo or Jones so that
pick will get(or should) most of the reps? The ninth pick in the first round should
start or your wasting your pick!!

No argument from me. If he can’t play a lot right from the get-go, they chose the wrong guy at #9. I just mean he might need some mentoring, and Calvin could be that guy.

another presumably low-cost signing to provide needed depth. as long as rex doesn’t do like he did last year with bart (playing him too much) we’ll be fine. if pace plays more than 30 or 35 percent of the snaps, even if out of need, it will not bode well for our defense. honestly, i am so itchy to see what idzik gets out of the bucs for rIvIs it’s almost like i don’t care about anything else, football related or otherwise

I will not bode will for us under any circumstances if Pace has to play that much….god no!
