For all of the talk about how much better this team will perform once a new quarterback is in place, this one is for you guys. Let’s look at the current options at quarterback for the New York Jets, and not include Mark Sanchez, to see what the “real” other options are:

  • David Garrard
  • Tim Tebow
  • Greg McElroy
  • Matt Simms

Let’s look at these options, and look at them honesty.

Two of them, Simms and McElroy have been riding the bench, and we truly don’t know what we have available to us in them.  McElroy had his stretch in 2012, but that is what it was, a stretch.

Do you feel confident in either of those two guys taking the team over?  Both of these guys would be “projects”, to say the least.  What if TT was starting next year?  OK, nothing would divide the fanbase more.  Furthermore, the team obviously doesn’t believe in Tim Tebow.  Why would the team all of a sudden make a move to this guy?

Finally,  David Garrard.  Garrard can do the job, and I actually believe that a healthy Garrard can beat out Mark Sanchez.  But, we don’t know.  We don’t know what his health is like, and we won’t until this summer, where the Jets could still be sitting around without a backup QB.

The point is, whether Mark has to go or not, be careful what you wish for.  “It’s not always greener”.  If the Jets were to release a guy with 4 road playoff wins, and replace him with someone that can’t get it done, they will look just as stupid.

Removing Mark Sanchez from this roster is not some magical fix to making this team into a playoff team.

The one point you left out is what if the jets pick Geno Smith 9th? or the jets trade Revis to TB and pick there Geno Smith 9th and Jarvis Jones 13th? If not they
they might even pick EJ Manuel with the 39th pick and let him compete for the
starting QB job? I agree with you that the jets should not trade Sanchez in the
Revis deal! Do see how dumb that sounds and that TB would even consider it?
Sanchez will be our QB unless David G blows them away in Training camp or
the jets pick Smith and let him compete for the starting job and he wins it?
I really like Ivory and a one two punch of Goodson and Ivory could be excellent
    if they stay healthy!!

See, I am not even a big fan of Geno’s. I don’t even think that he is a can’t miss prospect from what I have seen. I am not completely happy with any of these quarterbacks.

I’m not happy with any of the college QB’s this year either but the jets
        might be!!

i dont think anyone is saying that getting rid of sanchez is gonna make this a playoff team but sometimes you gotta dig the mud pitt up before you can lay a foundation down. I think we are stuck with mark for one more year no matter what though, Mr.T made sure of that.

    • TheJetPress

Your theory is fair Dustin. I have actually heard people on my Twitter TL say that if Mark was gone the team would have won 12 games last year….Those are the people I take issue with, not rational people like yourself.
