For all of the talk about how much better this team will perform once a new quarterback is in place, this one is for you guys. Let’s look at the current options at quarterback for the New York Jets, and not include Mark Sanchez, to see what the “real” other options are:
- David Garrard
- Tim Tebow
- Greg McElroy
- Matt Simms
Let’s look at these options, and look at them honesty.
Two of them, Simms and McElroy have been riding the bench, and we truly don’t know what we have available to us in them. McElroy had his stretch in 2012, but that is what it was, a stretch.
Do you feel confident in either of those two guys taking the team over? Both of these guys would be “projects”, to say the least. What if TT was starting next year? OK, nothing would divide the fanbase more. Furthermore, the team obviously doesn’t believe in Tim Tebow. Why would the team all of a sudden make a move to this guy?
Finally, David Garrard. Garrard can do the job, and I actually believe that a healthy Garrard can beat out Mark Sanchez. But, we don’t know. We don’t know what his health is like, and we won’t until this summer, where the Jets could still be sitting around without a backup QB.
The point is, whether Mark has to go or not, be careful what you wish for. “It’s not always greener”. If the Jets were to release a guy with 4 road playoff wins, and replace him with someone that can’t get it done, they will look just as stupid.
Removing Mark Sanchez from this roster is not some magical fix to making this team into a playoff team.
