Many of you are familiar with Pete Prisco’s work. He is quite active on Twitter, and is a great follow (@PriscoCBS). His opinions are blunt, honest, and well thought out. He is a senior writer for CBSsports.com, and you will see him turn up on the NFL Network and NFL.com from time to time. His thoughts on football are as good as they come.
We even interviewed him at the Jet Press, prior to the start of the 2012 regular season.
This week, Pete has released his most recent version of his 2013 Mock Draft. Let’s see who the Jets take at #9 in his scenario:
STAR LOTULELEI, DT, UTAH
Rex Ryan would probably see another Haloti Ngata in him.
Have a look at his entire draft by clicking here.
Pete may be right about Lotulelei. Rex Ryan might very well be seeing shades of Ngata in this young man. There have been worse analogies made between players, that’s for sure. Come on now, Rex Ryan compared DeMario Davis to Ray Lewis after one practice.
We certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if Star Lotulelei was the choice. Take a look at my thoughts on Star from my draft profile piece. Make no mistake, Lotulelei has “star” potential, no pun intended. As long as his heart condition is in order, he will be a very successful NFL player.
For the Jets, however, the more I think about it, the less I see them choosing an interior defensive lineman. With Muhammad Wilkerson coming into his own, along with the improvements of Quinton Coples, the Jets are just more likely to stay with outside player, even in Pete’s scenario with Dion Jordan and Barkevious Mingo off the board.
I see a greater chance, in this scenario, of Jarvis Jones being the choice. Either one would be just fine, I just think they will stick to an edge pass rusher.
We’ll find out soon enough.
