When John Idzik says he is going to have competition at every position, he means every position.

A while back, he re-signed K Nick Folk, so you might have thought that at least one position would be decided prior to training camp. However, that is not the case. The Jets have announced that they have signed kicker Derek Dimke to a three year contract. Dimke spend last year’s training camp with the Detroit Lions.

Even without Idzik, the competition at has always been there at kicker. The Jets bring 2 kickers to camp almost every season, whether it was Folk and Josh Brown, or Folk and Novak previously, the Jets consistently hold competition at the kicker spot, so 2013 will be no different.

Then, although this one is not con firmed by the team yet, we learn the Jets will he having competition for Robert Malone at punter as well. Ryan Quigley spent last preseason as a punter up in Chicago with the Bears. Quigley tweeted yesterday that he will be joining the New York Jets.

Nothing special here by Idzik, just reiterating the fact like he said all along, about the importance of competition.

The team has made the punter signing official, as well as the David Dimke signing.
