Ladies and gentlemen, the GM with the quiet, steady hand has acted once again, and this time has brought us a linebacker.

Antwan Barnes, previously of the San Diego Chargers, is stating this afternoon via Twitter that he has signed with the New York Jets. He also visited with the Dolphins before meeting with his family to make his decision, and that decision was to sign with the New York Jets.

Barnes is a pass rush specialist, but one with some history as an effective pass rusher, with all due respect to Aaron Maybin. In 2012 with San Diego, he posted 3 sacks in just 11 games. However, 2011 was the year that Barnes broke out, with 11 sacks from his linebacker spot. I have said this before and I will say it again, could you imagine a Rex Ryan defense with a guy putting up double digit sacks?

I know I would find that pretty exciting.

Let’s not count our chickens before they hatch, as they say, but this guy could be a huge addition, if he realizes is potential from 2011.

Barnes has since retweeted that they are still negotiating a deal, it is not done yet.  It seems that the player misquoted himself.  Only in NY>
