The Jets are showing some interest in another free agent, for what it’s worth.
The Jets beat reporters, including Conor Orr that the Jets have expressed interest in Raiders’ free agent WR Darrius Heyward-Bey. The interest isn’t terribly surprising, as he was with the Radiers with WR coach Sanjay Lal, who has been with the Jets since 2012.
Sanjay was successful in bringing Chaz Schilens with him last year from the Raiders. How successful was that? Please note the sarcasm.
The other question is whether or not Darrius Heyward-Bey is worth the Jets’ time. He was a highly touted WR when he was drafted in 2009, but never lived up to that hype. He has not posted a 1,000 yard season, and his career high in receptions was 64 in 2011, which isn’t bad, but really isn’t flashy either.
His numbers are very pedestrian, and the team seeking his services is less than pedestrian at quarterback right now. The question is whether the Jets want to make a reclamation project out of a receiver that never really fulfilled is potential.
I am not so sure.
