The NFL draft is rapidly approaching, just a little over one month from now. With that, the mock drafts are coming out left and right, and will continue to do so until the draft commences in April. Who will go where? What is John Idzik going to do with his first draft pick as the Jets’ GM? Everyone on the map has been chiming in, and will for the next month.
Bucky Brooks of NFL.com has brought forth his 5th version of his Mock Draft, and his first since free agency opened.
Here is his choice for our beloved New York Jets………………
Jarvis Jones, OLB, University of Georgia
Rex Ryan desperately needs an explosive edge rusher to take his hybrid scheme to another level. Jones dominated the SEC with his explosiveness, and Ryan would love to tap into those skills to help Gang Green get back on track.

We have talked about this for weeks now, the fact that the Jets need an edge pass rusher in the worst way.
Jarvis Jones has all the talent in the world. He came into his own over the last two seasons, after coming over from USC. In 2011, Jarvis amassed 70 tackles, and 13.5 sacks. He followed that up with a senior season of 86 tackles and 14.5 sacks. He added 4 forced fumbles in 2012 and one interception.
Here are some highlights for those of you that might not be familiar with him:
This guy clearly is a beast. He is fast off the line of scrimmage, and closes on the ball carrier like there is no tomorrow. Rex must be salivating when he watches this guy play.
The only question will be with his health. For anyone who doesn’t know, Jarvis Jones suffers from “cervical spinal stenosis”. Without getting into the technical health stuff, he is at a higher risk for “stingers”. His doctors have said that he will be fine, but anyone with a diagnosis of spinal problems, who makes his living hitting people, is always going to be a question.
As long as Jarvis Jones is healthy, I love this pick for the Jets.
