BREAKING: New York Jets to Release Sione Po’uha

It looks like a warrior from the Jets front lines, will be on those front lines no more.

Rich Cimini, from ESPN New York, among others, is reporting at this hour that the Jets are set to release Sione Po’uha. This is no real surprise to anyone, as he was severely limited in 2012 thanks to a back injury that would not go away. He also is 34 years old, which is the wrong side of the big 30, especially when his back is not stable. To play on the inside, you need a strong back to push back against the big linemen. Expecting a 34 year old player’s back to get all the way back to full strength is a lot to ask.

Saying goodbye to Sione saves the Jets approximately $3.8 million against the salary cap, as they work hard to put themselves into position to make moves after the free agent period opens this afternoon. Does this extra money help bring back Mike DeVito? Others? We will find out in the coming hours and days.

Sad but needed to be done, could be back, Sione could be okay, always a demand for NT, health is everything. If they haven’t sewed up DeVito yhis could be a very bad move, and our new GM is gonna catch some serious New York heat. If DeVito is signed, another indication that Rex’s hybrid defense will be primarily a 4-3 front.

I hope if they want DeVito, they get it done fast…word is 6 teams have made inquries.

What is kind of interesting is if Pettin and the Bills try to pick up Jet Players. Pettin is trying to install his system in Buffalo. DeVito and Landry may be targets, think about Landry and Byrd Safety tandem’. Look for guys that have been cut Pace,Pouha and Scott to become Bills

        • TheJetPress

He clearly is trying to bring guys up there. And that safety tandem would be just sick.
