For anyone that was hoping that Alex Smith would be acquired by our Jets, that appears to not be happening after all.
NFL.com is reporting that, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, among others, is being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. The rumored compensation is two second round picks in the draft, one in the upcoming draft, and one in 2014.
We say “rumored” because no deal can be made official until the start of the new league year on March 12th.
Assuming that this trade goes through, it affects the New York Jets greatly. Specifically, it affects the ability to trade Darrelle Revis. This will leave the 49ers with an astounding fifteen draft picks in the upcoming draft.
It has been reported in the recent past that the 49ers are one of the teams interested in the services of Darrelle. If the 49ers in fact do covet Darrelle Revis, they certainly now have the picks to entice the Jets into moving the best CB in the league.
