It may not work out, but it’s worth a try.

Our buddy from the Jets Blog, Jake Steinberg, is reporting a couple of hours ago that the Jets have reached out to Mark Sanchez, with the hopes of restructuring his contract. We know the reasons, his dead money if released would amount to $17 million under the current arrangement.

Will he do it? It’s hard to say. People don’t normally offer $8 million back to their employer, which is what Mark might be asked to do. As we have talked about on here before, they haven’t exactly treated him well with his supporting cast, he certainly doesn’t owe it to the Jets to restructure.

Maybe, he will do so, making a “there is no I in team” gesture. It might inspire him to perform better to earn his way back on the team. It would also make it more feasible to release him if things don’t work out this summer at training camp.

What this does tell us, however, is that John Idzik is starting to work on this roster. Like I said this morning, it’s not a big deal that no moves have been made yet.
