Here he is ladies and gentleman, I present to you, your new general manager, Mr. John Idzik. Thought it might be high time to bring you all some background, now that it is official.
Idzik joined Seattle in February of 2007. He was active in player evaluations, but his expertise was more geared in the direction of contracts, as he oversaw player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations. Prior to that he was the Senior Director of Football Operations with the Arizona Cardinals, helping to build the team that eventually was NFC champs. John entered the NFL in 1993 as a member of the Tampa Bay Bucs organization, and spent 11 years with them. He started out as a Pro Personnel Assistant, was promoted to Director of Football Administration in 1996, and then to Assistant General Manager in 2001. He has coaching experience as well, in the college ranks as well as overseas.
Ironically, he has family ties to the New York Jets. His father, also John, was an assistant coach under Walt Michaels. He debated heavily with coach Michaels about whether to stay with a struggling starting quarterback, or go to the bench. Sound familiar anyone?
