Pregame Thoughts for Wildcard Sunday

Here are some thoughts for today’s games, which start in just a couple of hours from now.

The improbable Colts and their rookie leader Andrew Luck take to the national stage in the first game, as they head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens. A good mix of veterans and youth, combined with the heartwarming story of how the team has played for their head coach makes the Colts an easy team to root for. It’s a game that marks a bit of a changing of the guard, as it is the first of likely many playoff appearances for Mr. Andrew Luck, we now know it is the final appearance in the playoffs for Ray Lewis, who will retire at the end of this season, ending his brilliant 17 year career.

Can Andrew get something going against the always tough Ravens defense? Will the Ravens establish the run and put it down the Colts’ throats with Ray Rice? If Luck isn’t overwhelmed by the moment, it could be a very interesting game. When you are playing for a higher power, like your coach being ill, magical things sometimes happen.

This very well could be the game of the weekend. It is certainly one we have all been waiting for, with Russell Wilson going up against RGII. Two outstanding young quarterbacks, and two great running backs (Lynch and Morris) make this game one that should be fun to watch on the offensive side. This game just might be decided by which QB is able to do more damage with their legs. If one of these guys can consistently break contain, it might just decide the outcome today.
