Tom Heckert Cancels His Interview with the Jets

Tom Heckert has exited the race to become the next general manager of the Jtes.

One guy has taken his name out of the hat to replace Mike Tannenbaum.

Brian Costello of the New York Post reported tonight that former Browns GM Tom Heckert has cancelled his interview with the Jets. Brian’s source felt the reason that Heckert decided to back out was the salary cap situation with the Jets, which we all know is not great.

It may be for a different reason. There have been reporters linking Heckert to Andy Reid, who has been formally introduced as the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Heckert spent time in the front office with Philadelphia during Reid’s tenure, and Reid would like to bring him into Kansas City with him. Either way, this is not disappointing news. One, Heckert has not been a great success of late, as evidenced by his record with the Cleveland Browns. Secondly, a re-tread GM will not be as motivated as new guy to fix the Jets. A young guy, getting into his first job, will be someone that will take the Jets’ cap issues by storm, and attack them head on.

Rumors are swirling that the Jets are high on Tom Gamble. Hopefully, they will make that happen.
