It looks like, if the reports are true, that Woody Johnson has put his foot down on the Rex Ryan situation.

Multiple reports have surfaced that Woody Johnson, in his search for a new general manager, has informed candidates that they must keep Rex Ryan for one year. If this the case, that means they won’t have full autonomy on the coach, at least the first season. This could become a disaster, as we talked about in the article earlier today. It could be a blessing for a very viable candidate, though. Tom Gamble, the director of player personnel from the 49ers, has a connection with the head coach, working with Buddy in the past, and knowing Rex for an extended period of time. That could bode well, as word is they are friends. If Gamble and Rex can align with their philosophies, it could be a match made in heaven. Otherwise, Woody’s ultimatum, if true, could be a disaster.

Let’s hope he knows what he is doing.
