Fans love the underdog. Fans love the guy that comes up from obscurity to be an influential player on their team. Mike DeVito is just that type of guy. Mike came on the scene as an undrafted free agent in 2007, and has worked his way up to being a solid starter along the Jets defensive line, recording 52 tackles in 2012. He is a fan favorite, one that everyone wants back. He is a free agent this upcoming offeason, how does Mike feel about it?
I love New York. I’m so grateful to have been a part of this organization for six years. My family is here. It’s been my team my whole life. I have pictures of me at three years old wearing a Jets hat. I have a lot of roots here. I care about the fans. I care about the (media). This is a great media (market). (They) do a great job (and) are very professional. I have a lot of respect for (the media) as well in a tough place to do this. Obviously, this is a place (where) I want to be, but I have a family and I have to do what’s best for them.
With all of the brashness, all of the drama, all of the controversy, the Jets need more guys in their locker room like Mike DeVito. They need more guys that work hard, don’t want the limelight, and just want to get the job done. Obviously, we will see the vision for 2013 once a new GM is in place, but hopefully that vision will include Mike DeVito.
