Well it’s official, and let the fun begin.

The Jets have announced this morning that Mike Tannenbaum has been fired as the general manager of the New York Jets. After two sub-par seasons, owner Woody Johnson realized that change HAD to be made, and that has started this Black Monday morning. Tannenbaum is out as the GM of the New York Jets. He is not being retained in any capacity.

As we reported yesterday, a firm has been hired to aid in the search for a new general manager, which will begin today. In a statement, Mr. Johnson also stated that Rex Ryan will be the head coach in 2013. That could handcuff the Jets as far as candidates are concerned, because it is unlikely that an established GM will want to inherit a coach. Could the new GM still have the leeway to get rid of Rex? Possibly, but for now, Rex Ryan will be kept on.

We all knew this was coming, between the report of the firm hiring, and that Mike did not have an end of the year press conference today.

And so it begins.
