Well, on this Christmas Eve, a Jets player has been given the gift of freedom. Depending upon his outlook, he might not find this so difficult to accept.
This afternoon, in what might be one of his final moves as general manager of the Jets, Mike Tannebaum and company have announced the release of WR Mardy Gilyard. He had tried out with the Jets in the past, only to be released prior to the beginning of the season.
Gilyard was brought in a few weeks ago to try and help offset the injury problems that the Jets had been having at the wide receiver position. However, Mardy has had minimal impact, recording only 2 catches for a whopping 15 yards. Stephen HIll was recently put on injured reserve, so the depth chart remains thin, but with the re-signing of Braylon Edwards last week, the Jets felt comfortable letting Gilyard go.
For his career, Gilyard has recorded 8 catches for a total of 78 yards. Look at it this way gang, we might not have to look at the name Mike Tannebaum for a long time.
