With the playoffs no longer a possibility, it’s time for Rex Ryan and the Jets to look ahead to 2013. Greg McElroy is starting at quarterback, so the Jets will get a real chance to see what they have in him going forward. What about the other younger guys? We have been calling for more time for the young players all season long. Will we see more of them now, as the Jets play out the season. Coach Ryan says yes, take a look:

The younger players are certainly going to get the opportunity, the Quinton Coples, the Bilal Powells, Vlad Ducasse. We’ve been playing those guys throughout the year and that will continue. I would think Quinton Coples you’ll see more of. I’d like to see Kenrick Ellis more as well. I think Kenrick’s a guy that unfortunately had the injury. He was playing well initially in the season and then he got hurt. Absolutely I want to see some of these young guys play. I’m excited about Antonio Allen. He’s stepped up and he’s played well for us. There are a lot of young guys that we’ve been putting in there. I’ll say this, not at the expense of us winning games. We’re going to try and go out and win these two games. At the same time, I absolutely am excited to watch some of these young guys play.

It’s about time. The Jets need to start preparing to cut ties with some of the older players. The only way to do that would be to start seeing what they have in the younger players.
