The Jets improved play suddenly has put them right back in the thick of things. It is going to be rough as they don’t hold many tiebreakers, but the Jets find themselves one game behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the race for the final playoff spot in the AFC. The Jets will have to win out and get help, but the fact remains that the possibility is there. Are the Jets thinking about the playoffs? Absolutely not. Here is what Mike DeVito had to say Monday:
I think next week. Me personally, I always think next week. I think to the next game. I don’t do well when I start thinking ahead. The focus is on Tennessee. Let’s control what we can control in front of us.
Emerging lineman Muhammad Wilkerson echoed similar sentiments:
Our next playoff game is Tennessee. All we can focus on is the next game. We can’t focus on or worry about any playoff pictures. We just have to worry about our next opponent, and that’s Tennessee on Monday night.
Even coach Ryan is not making any promises:
Well suddenly, I’m not worried about anything else but finding a way to beat Tennessee. Our position is simple – we have to beat Tennessee, so I’m not really focused on anything else.
The Jets focus remains in the appropriate place, the next game. All they can do is take care of their own schedule, and let the chips fall where they may. If they try to think too far in the long term, they will run into trouble.
