2013 NFL Mock Draft: The New York Jets Select……..

facebooktwitterreddit

The 2nd Fandsided Mock Draft is out and for the 2nd straight week, the guys over at Fansided have selected another pass rushing DE for the Jets and rightfully so.  Now, I’m not as excited about Dion Jordan, the speedy pass rushing DE from Oregon as I am about Jarvis Jones and Damontre Moore but Jordan has excellent intangibles and attributes and fits the OLB position perfectly.  The Jets are in a precarious situation at season’s end to say the least. Pretty much their entire starting OLB corp will be ex-Jets, leaving a gaping hole at the position.

The Jets desperately need to address their OLB situation at the top of the draft and in this case, Jordan is easily the best pass rushing 3-4 OLB left on the boards and the Jets would be foolish to pass him up.  Jets have witnessed the emergence of DT Muhammad Wilkerson and DE Quinton Coples these past weeks and the thought of adding a promising pass rushing OLB to this defense to mix in is an immensely attractive thought to say the least.  It’s no secret that the Jets pass rush has left a lot to be desired these past few seasons and this defense desperately need a change in that department faster than you can say “Brady with A LOT of time in the pocket hits Gronkowski for the TD,”

Oregon’s DE Dion Jordan would instantly fill a need at OLB for the Jets.

Dion Jordan:

At 6’7 243, DE Dion Jordan has a tremendous frame that is an offensive tackle’s matchup nightmare on the edges.  Jordan is a very good athlete with a good first step and burst and with his size and agility, he can become a pest on the outside  and inside causing mayhem.  Jordan apparently is pretty good at dropping back into pass coverage and has the wing span to defend passes and knock them down at the line.  As I stated last week, adding an athletic pass rusher to this Jets defense will finally give Rex the defense he’s coveted since leaving Baltimore’s defense.  Jordan isn’t as polished as Jarvis Jones or even Damontre Moore, 2 of the best pass rushers in the nation BUT he is just as talented with tremendous upside and placing him under the tutelage of Rex Ryan and his defensive staff should do wonders for this kid’s development.  I think its a no-brainer that the Jets will go OLB/pass rusher in the first round but it’s getting the RIGHT OLB/pass rusher that’s important and yes it’s easier said than done of course but the Jets would be lucky to get a kid that is as talented, committed and that carries a relentless motor like Jordan does and it seemingly looks like a selection that Jets fans can be pretty happy with for more reasons than one.

Bottom line; I approve of the pick……
