The Jets announced one move today, adding a player to the practice squad. General Manager Mike Tannenbaum announced the signing of LB Jacquies Smith to the practice squad. Smith is 6’2″, 260 pounds from the University of Missouri. Smith entered the NFL with the Dolphins, signed by them in May. He did appear with the Dolphins during the preseason, before being released in August. In four seasons at Missouri, Smith recorded 74 tackles and 10.5 sacks.

Here is a little video from Smith:

Not that we are going to see much, if any, of this guy, but I still see some nice things. He does seem to always be around the ball. Whether he made the play or not, he was always around the football. His speed is pretty good, but not world class. He seems like he can get blocked off the ball fairly easy, but again, he is for depth.

You never know, maybe one day this guy could be lifted from the practice squad, as the Jets’ linebackers are a bit of an aging group.
