It’s always great to see a young player make his NFL debut. It’s especially great when we have seen the player work hard to come back from an injury, and earn his spot by grinding it out on the practice squad. That is exactly what we are going to get tomorrow, as OLB Ricky Sapp makes his NFL debut. Sapp was having a strong training camp before a high ankle sprain sidelined Ricky, but now he is ready to go. So what does he add to the defense? Here’s Ricky telling us in his own words:
I’m a pass rusher. I have a little bit of speed, so hopefully I can come in, add some speed to the defense, help out on special teams and just do my part.
Here is what coach Ryan had to say about bringing Ricky up from the practice squad:
Just the way he has been practicing, he has been a handful for us to block. The young man is a guy that just keeps going (forward). Remember, he had the high ankle sprain in training camp. He was having a great training camp and then he got injured. We really didn’t get a chance to put him out there in games, so he (was put) on the practice squad. He has worked so well. Let’s see what he can do. We will. We’ll find out. He’s going to be active for us and we’ll watch him chase the passer.
We all look forward to seeing him take the field tomorrow. Here’s hoping he can add some speed off of the edge of the defense.
