Shonn Greene on the Running Game Breakout Performance

In the win yesterday, Shonn Greene had a career day, setting personal bests in yards (161), carries (32), and matched a career best in touchdowns (3). The line was opening the holes, and Shonn was hitting them like he hadn’t all year long. Here is what Shonn had to say after the game, talking about why the team was prepared to break out as it did:

Just us believing in ourselves and not giving up. Just hard days at practice. When you’re down and the running game’s not going as well as you want, it’s easy to just give up on it and just be like, “whatever,” but we keep working every week at practice. We keep just grinding and grinding and saying it’s going to come along and it did today.

He acknowledged the play of his teammates that allowed him to play so well:

Yeah, my offensive line did a great job today. Lex (Hilliard) did a great job at fullback. The wide receivers blocked down the field. As one offense, one unit, we did a great job.

Coach Ryan was happy for his highly criticized running back:

We wanted to get that big back rolling, and we knew we were close. We’ve been working hard, and today we were able to get him going. When Shonn carries it that well and has that kind of production, it’s great for the entire team.

This is great for the fact that it will get the Jets confidence going, heading into the big matchup next week against the Patriots. They have to build on this, and be prepared to be clicking on all cylinders on Sunday.
