Meet your newest Jet, ladies and gentlemen.
Coach Rex Ryan confirmed the report from yesterday that LB Josh Mauga will miss the remainder of the 2012 season with a torn pectoral muscle, placing him on IR today. In his place, the Jets have announced the signing of 6th year defensive tackle Daniel Muir.
Muir, originally with the Green Bay Packers, has spent the last four seasons as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, playing in 40 games, starting 26 of them. His best year came in 2009, when Muir started 10 games and recorded 52 tackles, 42 of them solo. He is in his prime at 29 years old, and measures in at 6’2″ 322 pounds. They hope that Muir will add some run stuffing ability to the Jets weaker than usual run defense.
In other news, Rex Ryan is hopeful that Nick Mangold will play Sunday, but Kenrick Ellis is looking doubtful. If Ellis cannot go, Mike DeVito and Damon Harrison will start, marking Harrison’s first career NFL start. We will have an injury update later on today.
