I think I speak for all, or at least most, Jets fans, when I say hearing that Darrelle Revis is not going to play tomorrow made me a little nervous. We know what Darrelle could do to Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace, or whomever else he would have covered. Big Ben certainly is going to pick on Kyle Wilson, and we all hope he is up to the task.
But don’t tell Rex that we are nervous, because he is not. Here is what he had to say about Wilson yesterday:
I’ve seen a guy that really over the last two years, he spent time with Darrelle in the offseason, training with him and learning football from (him). That tells you about Kyle’s commitment. He wants to be a great football player and why not learn from the best, and that’s exactly what he does. I’ve seen him become a better player. He’s aware of what offenses are trying to do (and) how they’re trying to attack. His technique, he relies on his technique more than he used to. He’s a smart, tough, confident player.
And he was asked about Wilson’s confidence level:
I think so. When you come into this league as a rookie, sometimes you don’t know. You’re out there on your God-given ability (and) your instincts, but there are other ways as well. It’s becoming a student of the game. I think when you watch Kyle study (and) his preparation; it’s no surprise that he has had success.
If you are going to work with someone on the art of playing cornerback, there is nobody better than Darrelle. Kyle certainly looked good last week. Hopefully that will translate into shutting down one of those downfield threats of the Steelers on Sunday.
