Jets' Damon Harrison Stays Humble and Works Hard

Damon Harrison making the New York Jets is a great success story. From being separated from his family during Hurricane Katrina, working at Walmart, and living in a bad neighborhood, Damon has had a lot on his plate. What all of this does is keep Damon humble, and therefore, working hard. He looked at every day in a Jets uniform as his last. Take a look:

I didn’t. Like I said, I always just told myself everyday when I came into the locker room, ‘You’re gonna get cut today.’ It’s just something that I use for myself just to get by, just to keep myself working hard. I know I can play football. On the defensive line, it’s a great group of guys. When I first got here, I was like, ‘My agent said this would be a good place for me?’ (laughter) I called him and was like, ‘What were you thinking?’ (laughter) So, (I’m) just working hard and working with those guys. I’m just blessed to be in this situation.

Damon Harrison is a fan favorite, especially on Twitter, and it is understandable as to why. Too many athletes out there, as we all know, act as if they are owed a career. Damon Harrison knows that it can be gone any day, at any moment, and that drives him to be the best that he can be as a football player and as a person. It is refreshing and we are all rooting for him.
