Here is an interesting move.
The Jets have waived punter TJ Conley today, per multiple sources. Just five days before the Jets open the season against the Buffalo Bills, the Jets do not have a punter on the roster. During the final roster cuts over the weekend, the Jets waived Spencer Lanning, whom they acquired just a few days earlier. Early in the preseason, the Jets waived the early competition when they cut Travis Baltz, so it had seemed that Conley would be the punter once again. That is not to be.
Some have, in jest, speculated that Tim Tebow will do the punting, but we all know that isn’t the case. There are punters out there, as Matt McBriar is an example of one that was waived. Maybe Nick Folk can punt too, at this point it seems that anything is possible.
TJ Conley was never consistent as a New York Jets punter, so moving him isn’t really that surprising. The timing is, and it will be interesting to see who comes in next.
One more move has been made by Mike Tannenbaum and company. The team has announced that they have released the recently signed DT Isaako Aaitui. Interesting move, on a guy that has been here only a couple of days. With Sione Pouha’s injury, it seems rather curious.
