Why Have the Jets Not Used Greg McElroy?

We have seen a lot of Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow in the preseason. In fact, they received all of the snaps in the second and third preseason games. I know that the Jets have wanted Tebow to get his reps as a conventional QB, but the question remains, why have they not used Greg McElroy?

He is only the third string quarterback, yes this is true. But, it would be far from the first time that a horrible situation arises, and the third string quarterback is called into action. In his one stint in the first preseason game against the Bengals, Greg was pretty effective, going 4-6 for 49 yards. Not too shabby, and some people, especially on Twitter, have made the argument that McElroy is the best pure passer on the team. Whether that is the case or not, shouldn’t this guy get some reps to stay sharp?

Don’t forget about Matt Simms by the way. You could say that if these guys would get some reps, there could be a competition for the third quarterback position. You brought Simms in, shouldn’t we see what he has got? If he is a camp arm, then fine. But we still should see what Greg McElroy has to offer, shouldn’t we?

Yes, both of these guys will play in the final preseason game, which is good. But the competition will not be great. These guys should have gotten reps against higher competition, because it wouldn’t be the first time a third string quarterback was called into action.

Very odd that they have not.
