BREAKING: Wayne Hunter Traded to the Rams

October 2, 2011; Baltimore, MD, USA; New York Jets tackle Wayne Hunter (78) against the Baltimore Ravens at M

Well, Jets fans, it looks like it’s time to say good bye to this face.

Multiple reports are telling us that a deal is about to be finalized that will send Wayne Hunter to the Rams in return for OT Jason Smith.

We all know the struggles that Wayne Hunter has gone through last year, through and including the preseason this year. After being benched, he came in as a backup at left tackle, and gave up another sack last night against the Panthers. Frankly, he was a broken player that absolutely needed a change of scenery.

Jason Smith was a promising tackle coming out of college, as he was the second pick overall in the 2009 draft. However, he has been a big disappointment to the St. Louis Rams, so this appears to be a guy that also needed a change in scenery to revitalize his career.

It appears as this is a “change of scenery” move all around. The Jets made a situation like that work with Aaron Maybin, who was a big disappointment in Buffalo, but been huge for the Jets. Maybe the Jets are trying to catch lightning in a bottle again.

Well, at least Hunter is gone.
