Thoughts and Observations from Jets Final Practice at Cortland

This morning was the Jets final practice before breaking camp in Cortland, NY. It was shorter than other practices, and no pads, so here are some brief observations:

  • Mark Sanchez finished camp strong, not only throwing accurately in the final day, but showing leadership in the huddle.  Receivers were quoted saying that Mark was calling it “his huddle”, which is a great sign.  This is the year for him to step up.
  • The kicking competition is even as they break camp, as Josh Brown and Nick Folk were even again today.  This will be interesting to watch going forward.
  • The Jets are interested in Olympian Jeff Demps.  He did have a good career as a college running back, and obviously he is fast.  He could help, although without better performance from the offensive line, he won’t be able to do much.  Stay tuned, his signing might happen today.
  • The Jets did more Wildcat work today.  It’s no surprise that they did it during a closed practice, as they broke it out during one as well.  The offense stayed for a walk-through after the media left.  Maybe more Wildcat to break out Saturday?

That’s it from Cortland, as the Jets are back in NJ today.
