Is Woody Johnson as Clueless as he Sounds?

Woody Johnson is an interesting guy, is he not? He clearly likes attention. He has done some great things for this football team, no doubt, but he never met attention that he didn’t like.

However, is he really as clueless as he shows himself to be sometimes? Take a look at what he had to say when commenting about the level of media coverage surrounding Tim Tebow:

“I think the enormity of the coverage kind of suprised me a little bit,” Johnson said.

Yes, this was the first practice that Mr. Johnson has attended so far during camp, but that doesn’t matter. Doesn’t he read a newspaper every now and again? His backup QB was the biggest story in the sport in Denver, Colorado for pete’s sake! Come on Woody, you can’t be this naive. Maybe he is:

“I knew there would be press, there would be interest, but even by our standards this is pretty amazing,” Johnson said.

Interesting, when you go back to the offseason and refer to what Mike Tannenbaum had to say:

“We knew what we were getting ourselves into.”

So, did Woody not listen to his GM? Is he clueless? Or is it what I have said in the past? That Woody Johnson knows exactly what he is doing, and what that is, is trying to gain the most attention to his team.

Look at this other quote from Woody Johnson on Tuesday:

“We’re in a media business,” said Johnson. “We want to give our fans an insight.”

Seriously? I thought the Jets were in the football business. That could be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Is he clueless? Draw your own conclusions.

Did you really think he believes he is in a “media business” more than a football one? Come on don’t overreact to everything said and done. All he was saying a professional football team in this world today is also a media company and the Jets want to provide the fans with more insight in the goings on with the team. None of that takes away from the football part of the team, you know that. that’s left to the football people, which Woody is not. We all know that, Woody knows as much about the nuts and bolts of football as my 1 year old niece. That’s ok as long as he hires good football people and stays out of the everyday football matters, which he does.

Woody doesn’t say anything interesting, its how he operates. He’s not Rex. He’s a huge conservative do you think his benign “I’m glad the president is a Jets fan” comments showed his true feelings? Don’t take things so literally.

All I want from my owner is hire people with knowledge in football and for the most part stay out of the way and that’s what Woody does. Why every quote and every movement the Jets make has to be broken down and scrutinized is mind boggling to me. Other teams say and do just as much but get very little coverage.
