With LaDainian Tomlinson here last year, there wasn’t a lot of room for Bilal to run the ball, as he was only active for 2 games in 2011. He ran the ball 13 times for 21 yards. But this year, the competition for third down back is there for the taking.
“That job is wide open,” running back coach Anthony Lynn said. “I’m trying to develop one right now. We’d like for one of the young guys to come out of this camp ready to go on third down.”
He is trying to develop a guy for that role, mainly looking at Bilal and Joe McKnight. Lynn is waiting to see who emerges in training camp, and so far Powell is representing himself quite well.
We shared these the other day, but take a look at this highlight package from when Bilal was in college, and see what we could have in this guy”
The coaching staff loves his mix of power and speed, as well as the fact that he has good hands. We will be watching this battle play out for the remainder of training camp.
