This morning, we take a look at a guy that is turning heads at training camp so far. There wasn’t much expected of him, but he has played so well that he is in the discussion as the third down back behind Shonn Greene. He has truly surprised many that have watched him. Spotlight on RB Bilal Powell.

He’s a young guy, only 23 years old. He was born in Lakeland, Florida.

Bilal had a good career at the University of Louisville, averaging 5.4 yards per carry, and recorded 19 TDs. His breakout year, though, was his senior season, when he earned first team All-Big East honors, and a trip to the Senior Bowl.

That season, Powell ran the ball 229 times for 1,405 yards and 11 TDs, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He racked up his season high against the University of Cincinatti, rushing for 209 yards and 2 TDs.

The Jets chose Bilal with their fourth round pick in the 2011 NFL draft.
