Jets to Retire Curtis Martin and Dennis Byrd’s Numbers in 2012

Mark your calendars, Jets fans. This was a long time coming.

The Jets have announced today that the opening game, Sept.9 against the Bills will be “Curtis Martin Day”, and his number 28 will be retired. As he will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend, this is more than deserving.

Then, we learned about a second honor that is surprising, but again deserving.

On Oct.28 against the Dolphins, the Jets will retire the number 90 of Dennis Byrd. Dennis was another guy that was the epitome of the slogan “Play like a Jet”. He was paralyzed when taking a run at Dave Krieg in a game against the Chiefs, and has served as an inspiration to Jets players ever since.

A deserving honor to both.
