Eric Smith: “Yeremiah Bell is picking up the Defense Fast”

Unfortunately, that picture to the right is how we remember the Eric Smith of 2011, chasing somebody. But, like it or not, he is here, and he is the guy that has been in the defense longest. Therefore, he is trying to help the new guys learn the defense. Take a look at what he had to say about it in his summer Q and A:

Yeah, I’m trying to, but ‘YB’ is picking it up fast. It’s impressive how fast he’s picking it up. He’s one of those guys, I don’t know if it’s being a veteran guy — he’s been around football for a while, so he understands it. You tell him once what we need to do on the one play, and he’s got it. You’ve only got to tell him one time.

No surprise that Bell is learning quickly. After so much success over his years in the league, he is bound to have an understanding of the game that allows him to learn fast.

He also feels that Josh Bush is going to have a big year, that he is learning quickly and making places.

The safety position improving will be a big key to Jets success, so we hope he is right.
