Demario Davis out of Arkansas State is looking to make a major impact in his rookie season. He will be used in sub packages, especially on passing downs, to guard the tight end. He talked about playing for Rex Ryan in his summer Q and A:
He’s a players’ coach. All the players enjoy playing for him. He’s not like he’s up here, and you’re down there, he kind of relates to you on your level. And he kind looks at it like this is the players’ locker room, and it’s the players who have to go out there and do it, and the players have to lead this team to be where it is. You have to respect the coach that does that, trusts his players and kind of puts it in their hands, because ultimately when it comes down to it, you have to go out there and make the play. They can draw up the scheme, but you have to go out there to make the play. It pushes his leaders to be in a position where they have to step up and lead, and so you have to honor a person who does that.
Demario, whom we have interviewed as well, is excited about being a part of this defense. He is a humble kid that only wants to make the Jets better. I can’t wait to see him in action.
