This week, we take a look at one of Rex Ryan’s favorites. He was handpicked by coach Ryan as we learned during “Hard Knocks”, and impressed the team with his hard work. He also is my wife Stacy’s favorite player, so this one is a special one for me. Spotlight on FB John Conner.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, John attended Lakota West High School in West Chester, Oh. During his senior campaign, he rushed for 1,100 yards and 14 TDs, a whopping 6.3 yards per carry, earning him first team All-Greater Miami conference. He also earned honorable mention for All-Southwest Ohio.
Conner was not offered a scholarship, and ended up walking on at the University of Kentucky.
Conner made his way into the starting lineup, and by the preseason before his senior year, he was named the “best blocking back” in the Southeastern Conference by the Birmingham News. Following that season, John earned All-American honors from Pro Football Weekly.
He was picked in the 5th round of the 2010 NFL draft by the New York Jets, handpicked by Rex Ryan.

Alan has been a passionate Jets fan since 1985. Obviously, that means he is a glutton for punishment, as he has suffered through many Jets disappointments. He remembers Mark Gastineau's late hit in the 1986 AFC Divisional Playoff game like it was yesterday. There have been many more failures than successes, but through it all, Alan has remained true to the Gang Green. He has been blogging for the Jets on various websites for the past 5-6 years. He lives and breathes the NY Jets all year round, and is committed to bringing the Jets passion to "The Jet Press" on a daily basis.
