In 2012, we have a slimmer Rex Ryan on our hands. We also have a guy who is going to be more hands on, after a 2011 where he admittedly lost control of the locker room, which had its problems.
For instance, Darrelle Revis has stated that coach Ryan has been involved in every defensive meeting so far this year.
“I need to” get more involved, Ryan said last week, adding, “It’s not just with the defense. For me, I’m the guy that needs to be around the players. … I’ve been in more offensive meetings than I was last year … going around to different groups.”
Rex feels great disappoinent still, in the 2011 finish, and subsequent early exit from the season.
“It stings me the fact that I let the fans down,” he said. “I let myself down; that kills me, no question. … I want it. I want it for this franchise. More than anything, I want it for our players and I want it for the man [owner Woody Johnson] that had the courage to hire me. So, heck yeah, it stings, no question.”
Rex also stated how he plans to change the start of media briefings in order to allow him more time to look at tape. He wants to do something he is ”decent at”, which is coach.
It does seem like the personality that will help out the locker room is the no-nonsense Tony Sparano, Rex will do everything he can.
Which is great, the head coach needs his hands in on everything.
