Would Visanthe Shiancoe Be a Fit for the Jets?

Are the Jets in the market for a tight end? Sounds like it.

According to NFL insider Jason LaCanfora, the Jets and the Cowboys are the two teams closest to landing the free agent tight end. Let’s take a look at the guy.

He is 6’4″ 250 pounds. He is still in the prime of his career at 31 years old.

After beginning his career as a backup with the Giants, Shiancoe’s career took shape when he went to the Vikings. Over the last 4 years, he hasn’t had a season with less than 36 receptions. His best year came in 2008 with 56 receptions for 566 yards and 11 TDs.

What do you guys think? I mean, aside from Keller, do the Jets have another tight end that has proven he can catch the football? No, I would say that they do not. Jeff Cumberland missed most of 2011 with a torn ACL. Josh Baker really isn’t a tradtional tight end, more of an H-back, and they have two guys that are virtually unknown in Hayden Smith and Brian Linthicum.

It’s not a bad idea. Trouble, he hasn’t graded out well in run blocking, which is essential in our system as we all know.

I agree that shiancoe is in his prime. I dont know if the jets are going to get him, but he’d be a solid TE for whatever team he goes to and btw his best year was 2009 not 2008. Because he had brett favre as his qb in 2009

Yes, he would def be an asset to whatever team gets him. Thanks for reading. He actually had more receving yards in 2008 (596), than he did in 2009 (566), which is why I referred to 2008 as his best. You are right though, as he did have 11 TDs in 2009, so overall 2009 was prob better
