Would Visanthe Shiancoe Be a Fit for the Jets?

Are the Jets in the market for a tight end? Sounds like it.

According to NFL insider Jason LaCanfora, the Jets and the Cowboys are the two teams closest to landing the free agent tight end. Let’s take a look at the guy.

He is 6’4″ 250 pounds. He is still in the prime of his career at 31 years old.

After beginning his career as a backup with the Giants, Shiancoe’s career took shape when he went to the Vikings. Over the last 4 years, he hasn’t had a season with less than 36 receptions. His best year came in 2008 with 56 receptions for 566 yards and 11 TDs.

What do you guys think? I mean, aside from Keller, do the Jets have another tight end that has proven he can catch the football? No, I would say that they do not. Jeff Cumberland missed most of 2011 with a torn ACL. Josh Baker really isn’t a tradtional tight end, more of an H-back, and they have two guys that are virtually unknown in Hayden Smith and Brian Linthicum.

It’s not a bad idea. Trouble, he hasn’t graded out well in run blocking, which is essential in our system as we all know.
