Dunbar entered the NFL in 2004, where he coached a Bears defensive line that included rookies Tommie Harris and Tank Johson, who have gone on to accomplished careers.

He returned to coach his alma mater’s defensive line in 2005, and coached a defense that was 5th in the country in total defense, 7th in rushing defense, and 8th in points allowed.

Dunbar returned to the NFL in 2006 coaching the Vikings def line through last year. His line, led by Kevin and Pat Williams, led the NFL in run defense each year from 2006-2008, and only allowed 70.8 yards per game in that time.

Karl Dunbar is clearly a good defensive line coach. He has produced good numbers and talented players. If he can bring out the best in Quinton Coples, and the rest, he will have a big hand in the Jets success in 2012.
