New Jets Spotlight: Robert T Griffin

This morning, we take a look at another of the newest New York Jets. Spotlight on offensive lineman, Robert T Griffin, Baylor.

He’s 6’6″ 336 pounds, and runs a 5.58 40 yard dash.

PROS You cannot teach size, and at 6’6″ 336 pounds, he certainly has size. Scouts project him as a right tackle, which is a pro for the Jets, and especially Jets fans, but he can play tackle or guard. He has a mean streak which motivates him to take his man out. He is adept at his block at the point of attack, stays square, and keeps his feet moving.

CONS His balance is not great, and he is not very athletic in space. He isn’t great at getting a heck of a lot of leverage. He could also improve his quickness off of the snap, and scouts wonder about his ability to learn complex schemes.

He could certainly be a factor in the right tackle competition this summer. With the proper coaching, there is no reason why he won’t have a good shot to get it done.

As long as his name is not Wayne Hunter, Jets fans will certainly be happy.
